Courses and Testing are Available at Iowa Community Colleges

Iowa's community colleges offer training for individuals interested in becoming certified nursing assistants (CNAs). The colleges offer both classroom studies and hands-on clinical training. The CNA course is 75 hours. Community colleges also provide the required written and skills testing.

Courses are Available at Health Care Facilities and Private Entities

Some health care facilities and other private entities offer training for individuals interested in becoming certified nursing assistants (CNAs). Written and skills training is only offered by Iowa community colleges.

Testing is Available Online at Credentia or Headmaster

DIAL has contracted with two nationally recognized testing providers to offer secure, remote online written testing for CNA candidates across the state. Safety measures are in place to ensure the reliability and integrity of this remote testing.

Please note, while the written exam CNAs are required to pass are available remotely online, students will still be required to complete the skills test onsite at approved locations to demonstrate practical competencies.
