Voluntary Protection Program (VPP)

The Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) promotes effective worksite-based safety and health. IOSHA works with an employer and its employees at a worksite. The program involves a rigorous onsite evaluation by IOSHA safety and health experts.

OSHA recognition for qualified sites to one of three programs:

  • Star - for sites that show great effort to prevent and control workplace safety and health risks. These sites develop, implement, and continuous improve their safety and health management system.
  • Merit - for sites that develop and put in place good safety and health management systems. These sites need to take additional steps to reach Star quality.
  • Demonstration - for sites who operate effective safety and health management systems that differ from current VPP requirements. This program enables OSHA to test the efficacy of different approaches.

Strategic Partnership Program

IOSHA Strategic Partnerships are unique agreements. They aim to help and reward partners for making workplaces safer and healthier. These partnerships set clear goals, plans, and ways to measure progress in keeping workers safe and healthy. IOSHA works to improve safety and health at workplaces by working with:

  • Employers
  • Workers
  • Professional or trade association
  • Labor organizations
  • Other stakeholders

These partnerships often focus on a large construction projects. The partners develop goals, strategies, and performance measures.

Alliance Program

IOSHA's Alliance Program shares information about OSHA's resources and support tools. It also teaches workers and employers about their rights and duties. IOSHA strives to improve awareness of standards and worker rights by joining with:

  • Faith-and community-based organizations
  • Labor unions
  • Trade or professional organizations
  • Educational Institutions
  • Employers
  • Other groups

Members of the alliance reach employees by:

  • Speaking and exhibiting at meetings and conferences
  • Preparing and distributing educational materials
  • Developing and delivering effective employee training
  • Any other appropriate methods
