Education Requirement
Applicants will need to provide documentation of the following:
- Official transcript or diploma sent directly to the board office from a college of podiatric medicine approved by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education (CPME) of the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA).
- Applicants who graduated from a podiatric college on or after January 1, 1995 must have completed a residency approved by the APMA CPME.
Foreign-Trained Podiatrists
Applicants who were trained in podiatry in another country must submit the credentials for evaluation by one of the following:
- International Education Research Foundations, Credentials Evaluation Service; or
- International Credentialing Associates, Inc.
Curriculum must be equivalent to those established in IAC 645--220.4. Applicants must also provide a copy of the certificate or diploma awarded from a podiatric program in the country where the applicant was educated.
Examination Requirement
Applicants will need to submit documentation of successfully completing the following:

Official score reports for Part I, Part II, and Part III of the NBPME examination sent directly from the examination service to the board.
Note: Applicants who graduated from a podiatric college in 1961 or earlier, and are currently licensed in another state and have practiced for the 24 months immediately prior to application may be exempted from passing Part I and Part II of the NBPME examination based on the applicant’s credentials and the discretion of the board.
Applicants Licensed in Another State
In addition the other requirements, applicants who are licensed in another state must submit evidence of the following:
- Licensure requirements in the other state(s) that are similar to those required in Iowa; and
- The applicant must have held the active license for 12 of the last 24 months directly preceding the date of application. The license verification must include the following:
- Issue date
- Expiration date
- Status of license including a reference to any pending or past disciplinary action.
- The verification may be printed from another state licensing board’s website if it contains all of the information noted above. If an online verification is not available, the verification must be sent directly from the licensing board(s).
