Board Overview

The board regulates the practice of nursing and Certified Practicing Midwives under the authority of Iowa Code Chapter 17A, 147, 152, 265, and 272C. 

The mission of the Iowa Board of Nursing is to protect the public, health, safety, and welfare by regulating the licensure of nurses, the practice of nurses, nursing education and continuing education.

The board is comprised of representatives from nursing education, nursing practice, and the public.

Board Meetings 

Meeting dates for the Board of Nursing are subject to change. Agendas for meetings and hearings will be posted to the DIAL Public Meeting Calendar approximately one week before the scheduled date. However, agendas may be updated and posted no later than 24 hours before the meeting’s start time.

Nursing Committees

Iowa Center for Nursing Workforce Advisory Committee

The Iowa Center for Nursing Workforce exists to support a dynamic, well-prepared, and diverse nurse workforce to meet the health and wellness needs of Iowans. The committee consists of the following representatives:

  • A serving board or staff member
  • BSN education
  • LPN and ADN education
  • Iowa Nurses Association
  • Iowa Organization of Nurse Leaders
  • Iowa Hospital Association
  • Long-Term Care Association
  • Iowa Workforce Development
  • Iowa Action Coalition
  • Iowa Department of Health and Human Services
  • Registered and licensed practical nurses
  • Public member

Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner Advisory Committee

The Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) Advisory Committee exists to discuss practice and educational standards, current topics, research, and best practices. The committee is comprised of licensed ARNPs.
