Although boarding homes are not considered health facilities, they are managed by DIAL's Health Facilities staff.
Iowa law requires boarding homes to register with DIAL. A facility is considered a boarding home if it rents rooms to three or more individuals who require supervision or assistance completing everyday tasks (bathing, dressing, using the toilet, eating, etc.).
Owners, operators, and managers of Iowa boarding homes may register their buildings electronically by filling out the boarding home registration form. Boarding homes are covered in Iowa Code Chapter 135O.
