How Do I Apply for an Athletic Training License?

Documentation and questions may be submitted by email: plpublic@idph.iowa.gov.

Official transcripts conferring a degree from a U.S. regionally accredited college or  university, sent directly to the department from the college or university.

Foreign-trained athletic trainers should contact the department for educational requirements.

BOC letter of current certification status sent directly from BOC to the department.

If the applicant has never been licensed in another state, you can skip this step. Applicants who have been previously licensed, registered, or certified in any other state must provide official verification of licensure in the other state(s). The verification must include license issue date, expiration date, and any pending or past disciplinary action. The verification may be printed from another state licensing board’s website if it contains all of the required information. If online verification is not available, the verification must be sent directly to DIAL by the state(s) where the applicant has been licensed, registered, or certified.

Applications are reviewed by DIAL staff typically within five business days. You will receive an email indicating what additional information is required.
