The Ruthven Community Care Center received the 2025 Governor’s Award for Quality Care, recognizing its outstanding commitment to resident well-being, compassionate caregiving, and exemplary service in long-term care.
On behalf of Gov. Kim Reynolds, Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals, and Licensing (DIAL) officials presented the award on Aug. 20 during a special ceremony at the facility, located at 2701 E. Mitchell St. in Ruthven. This was the second and final award to be presented this year.
Ruthven Community Care Center earned high praise for creating a warm, welcoming environment where residents feel loved, supported, and genuinely at home. The 46-bed facility stood out among statewide nominations thanks to its commitment to individualized care, strong community engagement, and consistently high-quality services.
“Ruthven Community Care Center exemplifies what it means to go above and beyond in long-term care,” said DIAL Director Larry Johnson, Jr. “Their staff treats residents like family and creates a community where compassion, dignity, and excellence are at the heart of every interaction.”
During the evaluation process, residents and families shared heartfelt stories of the care center’s impact. From a nurse arranging a last-minute hair appointment to make a new resident feel like herself again, to the staff driving residents to appointments and supporting them through grief, every nomination reflected a culture of kindness, respect, and personal connection.
The facility also partners extensively with local schools, businesses, and families to provide a dynamic calendar of indoor and outdoor activities. Residents participate in everything from bowling and gardening to casino outings and intergenerational events, such as Easter egg hunts with elementary students.
“We are deeply honored to receive this award,” said Administrator Ryan Sikora. “It reflects the dedication of our staff and the strength of our relationships with the community we proudly serve. Most importantly, it’s a celebration of the people who live here—each of whom brings joy and purpose to everything we do.”
The Governor’s Award for Quality Care is designed to promote and recognize exceptional health care facilities that demonstrate a consistent commitment to quality of life and care. Ruthven’s selection was based on a strong nomination record, positive audit history, and glowing reviews from residents, families, and staff alike.
