The Plumbing and Mechanical Systems Board issues medical gas piping certification to individuals who install or repair medical gas piping, components, or vacuum systems and who hold a valid certification from the National Inspection Testing Certification Corporation (NITC) or another board-approved certifying authority.
A medical gas system installer is a certified individual authorized to perform this work, including brazing, under a valid NITC or board-approved equivalent certification.
In addition to NITC, the board has approved the following organizations:
- Medical Gas Management (MGM)
- Medical Equipment Training and Certification, LLC (METC)
- Environmental & Medical Gas Services (EMGS)
- Airgas Medical Services, Inc. (formerly Medical Gas Management, Inc.)
- Medical Gas Testing & Certification, LLC (MGTC)
- The Medical Gas Training Institute
Certifications from other organizations may be considered with board approval.
Certification Maintenance and Renewal
Individuals who hold medical gas piping certification must maintain:
- A current NITC certification or board-approved equivalent
- Continuous brazing qualification (brazing continuity)
Because certification and brazing continuity must remain current, continuing education hours are not required for renewal of medical gas piping certification.
Requirements
To obtain a board-issued medical gas piping certification, applicants must:
- Submit an application online or by paper
- Pay the required medical gas piping certification fee
- Be at least 18 years old
- Provide proof of NITC certification or a board-approved equivalent, including documentation of current brazing qualification
