A pharmacy technician trainee helps with the technical tasks in a pharmacy so the pharmacist can focus on patient care. The supervising pharmacist is responsible for what the trainee does.
Anyone who wants to work in an Iowa pharmacy—whether for on-site training or as part of a college-based program—must register as a pharmacy technician trainee before starting work in the secure pharmacy area. Working in the pharmacy before getting registered can lead to public discipline.
The rules for pharmacy practice in Iowa are found in 481 IAC Chapters 550–557.
