- Applications for Pharmacist Licensure by Examination or Score Transfer are valid for two years from the date of receipt.
- Applications for Pharmacist Licensure by License Transfer are valid for one year from the date of receipt.
- Each applicant must also complete the required applications with NABP to take the required examination(s) or for licensure transfer, as applicable.
- Military Service may count towards Iowa Pharmacist license requirements (except exams) with submission of a Military Service Application with proof of training/service (e.g., DD Form 214) .
License Renewal and Continuing Education
Pharmacists licenses are valid for two years. All expire on June 30 of the corresponding year based on renewal cycle (odd or even years).
Late renewals incur a $180 penalty.
Displaying a Pharmacy License
Pharmacists must display their original wall license in a place that is easy for the public to see while working. A current renewal certificate must also be shown and can be a copy.
You can order extra original wall licenses for $20 each.
To request a wall license, send:
- Your full legal name (include proof if your name has changed)
- Your full mailing address
- Your license number
- A $20 check or money order for each license. Cash is not accepted.

Notifications and Compliance
Pharmacists must notify the Board within 10 days of any changes in name, address, or employment. Failure to maintain current information may result in disciplinary action.
