A 3PL license is required for any business that provides logistical services for human prescription drugs—such as warehousing or coordinating shipments—into, out of, or within Iowa.

Each 3PL location must be licensed separately. If a 3PL also handles controlled substances, it must hold a valid Iowa Controlled Substances Act (CSA) registration.

Updating Your License

  • The following changes to a 3PL Provider license require written notification to the board on the Board’s Acknowledgement and Attestation Form:
    • Identification of a temporary facility manager (who will not be subject to a criminal history background check)
    • Ownership
  • The following changes to a 3PL Provider license require the submission of an application and nonrefundable fee(s) at least 30 days prior to the change for a resident 3PL or within 30 days after the issuance of an updated home state license for a nonresident 3PL:
    • Name
    • Location
    • Permanent facility manager
