The Swimming Pool and Spas program develops rules to establish minimum safety and sanitation criteria for the operation and use of swimming pools and spas to keep Iowans safe.
Inspections are completed at the time of construction and periodically thereafter for the purpose of identifying obvious deviations from the rules that present health or safety hazards so they can be corrected by the owner.
There are many potential health concerns related to swimming pools and spas, including transmission of disease, injuries, and the potential for drowning.
Who inspects pools and spas?
Swimming pools and spas in Iowa are inspected annually by a local designated inspection agency. Inspection records are maintained for a period of three years by this agency.
