To renew to active status, a minimum of 28 credit hours in approved continuing education programs must be completed during the two‑year renewal period. This total must include the 7‑Hour National USPAP Update Course as well as the Valuation Bias and Fair Housing Laws and Regulations course.

All continuing education hours may be earned through approved classroom or distance‑education programs. Carryover hours are not allowed, and each course may only be taken once for credit during a renewal cycle.

Iowa accepts continuing education programs approved by the Iowa Real Estate Appraiser Examining Board, the Appraisal Qualifications Board (AQB), or another state appraiser regulatory body, provided supporting documentation from that board is included. Qualifying education may count toward continuing education requirements; however, continuing education cannot be used toward qualifying education.

Approved courses can be reviewed under “Iowa Approved Courses.” For full details, refer to Chapter 10 of Administrative Rules 193F.
