Find a Licensee with the Iowa Board of Medicine

You may verify the status of an Iowa license at the general public section of the online services website.

Verification of an Iowa Medical License:

For Another Licensing Board

Submit a request for verification online via the Veridoc Website .  Enter all of the required information.

• You will pay by credit card and the verification will be sent directly to the state medical or osteopathic board.

• Each request will include verification of all licenses the Iowa Board of Medicine issued to practitioner. (e.g., resident and permanent licenses)

Note: All states accept VeriDoc verifications. The Iowa Board of Medicine will not complete other state medical board license verification forms. The standard verification letter generated through VeriDoc provides all of the information required by state medical boards.

For an Agency Outside the U.S.A.

For requests to agencies outside the U.S. (Canada and overseas), sign in to your Online Services account.  Under the menu item to purchase items, select "Verification to Another State Medical Board". 

For Another Organization

Verification of a license that does not require a certified statement or letter is $22 (fee includes the online service charge) per license.

• Sign in to your Online Services account
• Go to Purchase Items in the main menu at the top of the page.
• Select "Verification to Non-State Agency" in the drop down menu. 
• Provide the requested information and submit the fee. 

Verification of an Iowa Acupuncture or Genetic Counselor License

Verification of a license that does not require a certified statement or letter is $22 (fee includes the online service charge) per license.

• Sign in to your Online Services account
• Go to Purchase Items in the main menu at the top of the page.
• Select "Verification to Another State Medical Board" or "Verification to Non-State Agency" in the drop down menu. 
• Provide the requested information and submit the fee. 

Verification of A License Issued by Another State or Organization

The Iowa Board of Medicine requires primary source documentation. Licensees are responsible for any costs associated with a request for license verification from another state or organization.

The Iowa Board of Medicine accepts electronic verifications of licensure.

• License verification and other application requirement forms can be sent via email to the Licensure Team at Licensure@iowa.gov

The Iowa Board of Medicine only accepts online verification provided by the applicant for the following states:

• Indiana:  The online verification must include the written license verification (available via download) and a summary of disciplinary action taken, if any.  A screenshot or other electronic copy is accepted.  

Note: This will require the applicant to submit two separate online requests from the state of Indiana.

Genetic Counselors

• Indiana
• Oklahoma 
• Virginia
• Washington
