Rulemaking action by the Iowa Board of Pharmacy has been published in the Iowa Administrative Bulletin as follows: 

Adopted 

ARC 6521C has been adopted and amends Chapter 10, “Controlled Substances.” 

  • The rule making temporarily places seven substances into Schedule I and one substance into Schedule IV of the Iowa CSA in response to similar action taken by the DEA.
  • The rule making becomes effective October 26, 2022.

ARC 6522C has been adopted and amends Chapter 20, “Compounding Practices.”

  • The rule making requires documentation of all ingredient sources, lot numbers, and expiration dates and the steps involved in the compounding process for all nonsterile and sterile compounded preparations. The rule making also separates rule 657--20.23(124,126,155A) into subrules for clarity.
  • The rule making becomes effective October 26, 2022.

Notice of Intended Action

ARC 6532C has been published as a Notice of Intended Action to amend Chapter 10, “Controlled Substances.” 

  • The rule making proposes to temporarily place one substance into Schedule I of the Iowa CSA in response to similar action taken by the DEA.
  • Comments may be submitted until 4:30pm on October 11, 2022.

ARC 6533C has been published as a Notice of Intended Action to amend Chapter 37, “Iowa Prescription Monitoring Program.”

  • The rule making proposes to establish PMP Advisory Council membership and clarify that only overdose-reversal opioid antagonists are required to be reported to the PMP.
  • Comments may be submitted until 4:30pm on October 11, 2022.
  • A public hearing will be held at the Board office at 10:00am on October 12, 2022.
