Healthcare providers may implement the following recommendations from CDC effective immediately.

Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine Booster Dose Recommendations

CDC updated recommendations for when people who receive the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine may receive a COVID-19 booster shot. The interval for the booster shot was shortened from 6 months to 5 months only for people who received the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine. The booster interval recommendation for people who received the J&J vaccine (2 months) or the Moderna vaccine (6 months), has not changed.

Additionally, consistent with prior recommendations for adults, CDC is recommending moderately or severely immunocompromised 5–11-year-olds receive an additional primary dose of vaccine 28 days after the second shot. At this time, only the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine is authorized and recommended for children aged 5-11.

ACIP meets Wednesday, January 5, 2022 from 12:00 pm until 4:00 pm CST to discuss booster dose recommendations for 12-15 year old patients. The agenda, slides and link to the webcast can be found here. This meeting is virtual. No registration is required to watch the webcast.
