The Iowa Board of Pharmacy has adopted rulemaking which extends the repeal date for participation in physician-signed immunization protocols. In response to changes in Iowa Code during the 2019 legislative session, pharmacies will be authorized to participate in a physician-signed immunization protocol through June 30, 2020. While the Board’s statewide protocol for immunizations is currently active and available for pharmacist participation, not all third-party payers recognize pharmacists as ordering practitioners yet and may deny claims under the statewide protocol. The Board adopted the rulemaking June 26, 2019 and has filed the rulemaking pursuant to Iowa Code section 17A.5(2)”b”(1)(b) with an effective date of July 1, 2019.
