The Iowa Board of Pharmacy is seeking out licensed in-state pharmacies interested in pursuing integration of their pharmacy dispensing system software with the Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) as part of a pilot program.  Currently, pharmacists perform PMP queries on current and prospective patients by exiting their dispensing software program and logging in to the PMP website.  Integration will allow pharmacists to have information on a patient’s controlled substance fill history readily available in their routine prescription processing workflow. 

Locations chosen to participate in the pilot program will have the integration funded by the Board of Pharmacy for a minimum of 12 months and will be expected to submit predefined reports to the board.  Additionally, the board will require the sites to complete pre- and post-integration surveys.
